'They're Calling for You, Mr. Azazel' Manga Gets Stage Play in February 2023

The stage play adaptation of Yasuhisa Kubo’s They’re Calling for You, Mr. Azazel (Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san) manga was revealed by Nelke Planning on Monday.

Tokyo will host the play from February 10 through to 26. The film’s director and screenwriter is Naru Kawamoto. The puppetry and effects are being managed by Hitomiza Puppet Theater. The life-size puppets will be controlled by the voice actors who portray the demons.

The play’s lead actor is:

  • Azazel played by Masaya Onosaka (reprising his role from the anime)
  • Beelzebub is portrayed by Ryotaro Okiayu and Hiroki Takahashi, with Salamander being played by Wataru Takagi.
  • As Akutabe, Yuho Matsui
  • As Rinko Sakuma, Yuria Sat

The detective Akutabe, his helper Rinko Sakuma, and the many supernatural demons (like Azazel) who Akutabe employs for his investigations are the main characters of the absurd comedic plot.

The manga finished in December 2018 after making its debut in Kodansha’s Evening magazine in 2007. The manga was released in 16 volumes by Kodansha.

In 2009, the series was put up for the 2nd Manga Taisho Award.

An original video anime adaptation of the manga was produced in 2010, a TV anime series in 2011, and a second television season in 2013. Both seasons of the show were published by Right Stuf on DVD in 2015, and Crunchyroll afterwards streamed both seasons.
