Elias Ainsworth’s purchase of Chise Hatori had a positive impact on her life. Despite the serenity, she is nevertheless prone to bad behaviours.

The Ancient Magus' Bride: Chise's Self-Destructive Habits Never Left

Chise Hatori, the main character of The Ancient Magus’ Bride, is a lot more harmful to herself than she admits. She often puts herself in risky situations, sometimes even life-threatening ones, merely to protect others around her.

Consider the incident at the conclusion of Episode 7 when Chise absorbed Josef’s fatal blow to protect Alice from harm. Without saying a word, she pushed her out of the path, putting herself through severe agony in order to defend those she loves about.

After all, Chise had just been informed of the real reason she and Renfred needed the black dog: they intended to use it to produce a chimaera. However, Josef, who is also attempting to stab Alice for speaking too much, pushed them both into it. Chise has just recently been acquainted with Alice. But even so, she would give up her life to protect her from harm.

Another example may be seen in Episode 14, as Chise is motivated to create the faerie salve in order for Joel Garland to see Redcurrant before passing away. In this case, Chise is adamant about staying up late every night to monitor the salve and make sure she doesn’t screw it up. She is seriously jeopardising both her physical and emotional health by doing this, however. She nearly died as a consequence of her acts, as was shown subsequently.

As Chise was handing the remaining faerie salve to King Oberon for disposal, the ring that Angelica had crafted for her to control her power started to wear too heavily, shattering and causing her to cough up blood from the strain it had put on her body.

Chise has a tendency to push herself to the edge and doesn’t always let Elias know when she needs to relax or isn’t feeling well. She is lucky to have Ruth as a familiar since without her, she would probably have worked herself to death by now. Ruth’s primary goal is to be in sync with his master, which means that when she’s not feeling well, neither is he. This is in addition to helping Chise with magic.
