Spy x Family Season 1, Episode 22, 'The Underground Tennis Tournament: The Campbelldon' Recap & Spoilers

In Episode 21, “Nightfall/First Fit of Jealousy,” Loid Forger aka Twilight and Fiona Frost aka Nightfall, two of WISE’s most ambitious agents, are given a new task and Nightfall starts to reflect on the changes she has seen in her partner and former mentor. More particular, she believes that Loid’s softening after becoming a parent has a bad effect on his job as a spy. She likes this new side of him and wants to be the one to bring it out in him at the same time. This entails Fiona getting rid of Yor Forger, Loid’s fictitious wife, as competition.

Fiona and Loid had a meeting at the General Hospital to go through their latest case concerning Cavi Campbell, 56. In addition to making a fortune in the oil sector, Campbell is well-known for being an enthusiastic antiques collector. As a result, he is the proud owner of The Lady in the Sun, a pricey artwork that belonged to the late Colonel Erik Zacharis. The previous owner of the picture was a member of the intelligence service of the Eastern military, and it was known that he had access to top-secret military data known as the “Zacharis dossier.” Due to the fact that it contains information on the human experiments the East military conducted, Fiona warns Loid that if this dossier became public, it might easily rekindle the fires of war.

The Lady in the Sun picture may have hints to the dossier’s hiding location as its locations are unclear. This indicates that Campbell and the East government will eventually learn the full meaning of the picture, thus WISE has to get the Zacharis dossier before they do. Luckily for Loid and Fiona, the picture’s location is known, so all they need to do is get into Campbell’s estate to access his basement where the painting is kept. Loid and Fiona will need to be able to access the estate without being seen due to Campbell’s contacts with the Secret Service Police and the high level of protection around it.

Fiona has an impenetrable strategy for sneaking inside the house unobserved, which is fortunate for the two Westalis spies. Campbell, who owns an underground tennis club, hosts unofficial tennis competitions within Campbelldon, his house. Financial elites and members of the underground tennis club submit their own players to participate in these events, whereas regular citizens are only allowed access after paying a high entry fee. The winner of the competition will be given the option to choose their prize from Campbell’s personal collection. This provides Fiona and Loid with a fantastic chance to purchase the artwork quickly and simply by passing as amateur tennis players and winning the Campbelldon competition.

Spy x Family Season 1, Episode 22, 'The Underground Tennis Tournament: The Campbelldon' Recap & Spoilers

Loid and Fiona first face off against the tennis pros Wolson and Babol while assuming the identities of Twain and Nafalia Phony, a married couple. Under the pretence of practising for a business event, Loid had played tennis with his fictitious wife and daughter, Yor and Anya, in order to be ready for the competition. Fiona, of course, has ulterior intentions for completing this task and wants to establish her abilities so that she may take Yor’s position as Loid’s fictitious wife during Operation Strix.

With that laser-like concentration, Fiona gives the competition her all and easily overcomes Wolson and Babol, wowing Campbell and the crowd in the process. The Boric Brothers, who take performance-enhancing substances to give them an edge on the tennis court, are Loid and Fiona’s opponent in the next round. They still fall short against Fiona, who eliminates them all by herself. From that point on, Loid and Fiona keep moving on in the competition until they reach the finals.

Yor and Anya are still playing tennis together in a public park, but Anya has noticed that her fictitious mother is thinking about something. Yor is considering what Fiona told her when she initially came to their flat and wonders whether Loid would be taking part in the competition with her. Then, she begins to wonder if Fiona and Loid are just friends or whether there is more to their connection than meets the eye.

Yor begins to consider murdering Fiona more and more as she ponders the danger she represents to her secure life with Loid. Fortunately for Fiona, Yor restrains herself from thinking any more about this. Yor is surprised when Anya intervenes to make her feel better before she can continue punishing herself for having these ideas. Yor hadn’t been speaking her thoughts out loud. Then, Anya swiftly corrects the issue by assuring her fictitious mother that she need not worry about Loid losing the game since he would be returning home with an amazing reward.

Spy x Family Season 1, Episode 22, 'The Underground Tennis Tournament: The Campbelldon' Recap & Spoilers

Loid and Fiona are led to a waiting area to wait there for 20 minutes before to the commencement of the final tournament. Fiona wonders if Loid was astounded by her slick tennis skills when she’s taking a nap. However, Loid anticipates that the game will be rigged in their advantage since they will be fighting against Campbell’s two teenage children. However, Fiona is unconcerned since the Campbell kids aren’t especially good athletes. However, Loid warns Fiona against following this path since it has been known to result in the murder of spies in the past.

Fiona and Loid discover their room is being pumped with an unseen, odourless gas as a method of incapacitating them before the final round before they get a chance to continue amusing themselves. Loid and Fiona make the decision to climb the lockers and cover their skin in order to reduce their exposure to the gas since they are unable to leave the room without drawing attention. Until it’s time for them to begin the last round against the Campbell siblings, both spies do their best to remain still.

As the Campbell siblings cheat their way into the final tournament, Loid and Fiona start to see how the gas is affecting their performance. But Loid isn’t going to be defeated by their petty games, so he begs Fiona to support him by keeping an eye on their surroundings. Fiona resolves to have Loid’s back in the decisive battle after being reminded of her feelings for him by this one action.
