Sailor Moon Cosmos Anime Films’ Video Reveals Sailor Starlights Cast, June Openings
An exclusive trailer for the two-part anime film adaptation of the final “Shadow Galactica” arc of Naoko Takeuchi’s original Sailor Moon manga, Gekijban Bishjo Senshi Sailor Moon Cosmos (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie), went up on the project’s official website on Tuesday. The video discloses the premiere dates for the movies—June 9 and June 30—as well as the three Sailor Starlights members’ on-screen casts.

Saori Hayami performs Taiki K/Sailor Star Maker (top left in the picture above) (lower left). Seiya K/Sailor Star Fighter is portrayed by Marina Inoue (top centre) (bottom center). Playing Yaten K is Ayane Sakura (top right) (lower right).

A recurring cast will be present throughout the movies.
Both movies are being directed by Den-noh Coil and Gatchaman Crowds alum Tomoya Takahashi for Toei Animation. The screenplays will once again be written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (PriPara, Land of the Lustrous, and all six JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure episodes). The original Sailor Moon anime’s character designer, Kazuko Tadano, is still working on the new cast. To write the soundtrack, Yasuharu Takanashi (Naruto Shippden) comes back. Art director Yumiko Soraga is in charge.
On June 3, Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie (Bisho Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal), a two-part anime film production, became live on Netflix. The two-part movie takes the place of Sailor Moon Crystal’s fourth season. The movies follow Takeuchi’s original manga’s “Dead Moon” storyline.
The debut of the first movie was initially set for September 11, 2020, but was postponed to January 2021 as a result of the new coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) spreading across Japan. In February 2021, the second movie had its Japanese premiere. The movies represented a 25-year gap since the previous instalment of the series to appear in Japanese cinemas.
The Death Busters arc, commonly known as the Infinity arc, was the primary subject of the third Sailor Moon Crystal season, which debuted in April 2016. The season was streamed on Crunchyroll, Niconico, and Hulu. The first two seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal, which had their online premiere in Japan, were broadcast on these three platforms and others. Sailor Moon Crystal is now available on Netflix.
All three seasons were released in North America via a licence from Viz Media. In August 2016, the studio published Sailor Moon Crystal’s first season on DVD and a DVD/Blu-ray Disc combination pack. The second season followed in February 2017, and the third season was released in December 2017.
The fifth and final season of the original Sailor Moon anime, Sailor Moon Stars, which follows the “Shadow Galactica” arc, was released by Viz Media, marking the season’s first home video release in North America. 34 episodes of Sailor Moon Stars were first broadcast between 1996 and 1997.
