On Tuesday, the third promotional trailer for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Urusei Yatsura by Rumiko Takahashi went up. Additional cast members and new theme song composers were also disclosed by the crew.

Both of the new anime theme songs continue to be performed by musician MAISONdes. “Aiwanamch feat. asmi, Surii” is the name of the new opening theme tune. The new opening theme is showcased in the video up above. The staff of the anime withheld the new ending theme’s title and other information. Beginning on January 5, the new theme tunes will be used in the anime.
The new cast members are as follows:

A 43-minute New Year’s special episode for the series from Fuji TV also features voice actors Hiroshi Kamiya and Sumire Uesaka.

On October 13, Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block featured the anime’s world debut. The anime will be streamed on HIDIVE along with an English dub.
Without any pauses, the anime will air for two cours (quarters of a year), or six months. The anime will adapt a number of storylines from the manga over the course of four seasons, or a full year, but not sequentially.
The series is directed by Takahiro Kamei, who also directed the episodes of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind and Strike Witches: Road to Berlin. The soundtrack is being composed by Masaru Yokoyama (Horimiya, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, 2019’s Fruits Basket).
In the spring of 2019, Viz Media started releasing the manga in 2-in-1 omnibus versions with fresh translations. In Viz’s summary of the series,
This huge trim size version of the renowned romantic comedy about a misfortunate human lad who meets a lovely space alien princess has brand-new translations and cover artwork. When he is selected to play tag with an alien princess called Lum who invades the planet in her UFO, Ataru Moroboshi’s uncanny experiences with women of the feminine variety all begin in the series. If Ataru doesn’t touch Lum’s horns within 10 days, aliens will conquer the planet! As it turns out, Ataru’s problems don’t end with the game of tag; he keeps having weird meetings with supernatural people like the attractive snow spirit Oyuki and the seductive crow goblin Princess Kurama!
From 1978 until 1987, the manga series was published in Weekly Shonen Sunday by Shogakukan. In the 1990s, Viz Media published a portion of the series in English under the names Lum and The Return of Lum.
The manga served as the basis for other anime-related works, including an original video animation (OVA) series that aired from 1981 to 1986 on television. With the exception of the Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer movie, which Central Park Media distributed, AnimEigo released the most of the preceding anime on home video. Discotek Media has started reissuing the films after these firms’ licences ran out.
