Is Buddy Daddies a Shameless Copy of Spy x Family?
Although Spy x Family and the forthcoming Buddy Daddies are superficially similar, the comparisons between the two series are mocked.
Spy x Family has been a very well-liked manga for a time, and the anime adaptation has only increased its popularity. Naturally, something that enormous would inevitably attract copycats. Unfortunately, the parallels could be a little too personal for one future performance.
An upcoming anime series called Buddy Daddies has an odd name and has an eerie similarity to Spy x Family. The series will reportedly include a few significant variations that should set it apart from the more well-known programme, despite the fact that they are very difficult to dispute. Given how much it is already despised for being an obvious duplicate, it will also require those distinctions.
Buddy Daddies Is Superficially Similar to Spy x Family
In the plot of Spy x Family, a veteran spy called Twilight pursues a target that requires a little more dexterity than normal. He must enrol a kid in the same school as the target’s boys in order to detain his target. He adopts a kid and marries a strange lady to complete the picture of a happy family in order to achieve this. He has no idea that his new wife is a seasoned assassin and that their kid is telepathic.
In contrast, Buddy Daddies features Rei and Kazuki, two close friends who work as contract killers and criminal contractors, respectively. When a little girl toddles into their life, their time together is dramatically disrupted. A local crime boss’s daughter walks into a gunfight in search of her father, and Rei and Kazuki decide to take her in. Due to the success of Spy x Family, the narrative and the fact that the kid in question is a girl seem fairly similar, making the new series appear like a complete copycat. Despite the fact that the setup is so general, this may not truly be the case.
Buddy Daddies Sounds Generic – But It Might Not Be a Spy x Family Wannabe
The cliché of “unlikely parents raise a kid together” is extremely ancient, and the movie Three Men and a Baby is the greatest example of the archetypal storyline. That 1987 film demonstrated how commonplace such a plot framework is in movies and television. Some anime fans are upset with Buddy Daddies since it came out so soon after the anime version of Spy x Family, which they see as a Johnny-come-lately series.
Another connection between the two friend daddies and Twilight and his assassin bride is that the two dads’ relationships might be contrasted. Some have begun to wonder whether Buddy Daddies have any soft boy’s love or yaoi components as a result of this. That’s unlikely, however, considering one of the characters is said to be a ladies’ man. In fact, the absence of romance prevents the plot from becoming too similar to Spy x Family.
In a similar vein, Buddy Daddy’s initial trailer suggests that it will likely focus more on the antics of the two as they attempt to reconcile their illegal activities with the responsibility of parenting a kid than the allegedly-inspired series, which instead delves deeply into the family element. Hopefully, Buddy Daddies will be able to rise above its odd moniker and “knockoff” reputation thanks to these many goals, enabling the series to succeed or fail based on its own merits rather than being negatively compared to another programme.
