INTERVIEW: TeddyLoid Talks About His Favorite Anime
The accomplished musician discusses anime, music, and the connections between the two with us.

Gainax’s Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, which debuted in August 2010, quickly gained popularity among anime lovers. Underlying the filthy comedy, classic design sense, and expertly drawn action scenes was an absolutely fantastic music by TeddyLoid, who was just starting out at the time. While many Westerners first encountered the artist via that series, TeddyLoid has subsequently gone on to have tremendous success and global acclaim as a musician. Along with providing the soundtrack for the popular animated short “ME!ME!ME!,” TeddyLoid has performed all over the globe and racked up millions of hits on streaming services. We had the chance to speak with the artist about how he got started, his preferred anime, and what he wants listeners to take away from his music.

Please give our viewers a brief introduction by saying “hello.”
TeddyLoid: My name is TeddyLoid, and I’m a DJ and music producer.
How did you begin your musical career? Have you been curious about it ever?
TeddyLoid: When I was two years old, I began playing an electronic organ called the Electone, although I often came very close to failing. However, I was fortunate to have an excellent instructor who helped me to appreciate music. In primary school, I also started to compose music on a computer. Then, in 2008, when I was 18 years old, I launched the TeddyLoid project.
What would you say your musical taste is?
TeddyLoid: It has a strong French touch aesthetic, as shown by Daft Punk and Justice.
What do you want listeners to take away from your music?
TeddyLoid: I think that each individual who hears music should be motivated differently by it.
I would be delighted to compose music to enhance the events in your life.
Which anime are some of your favourites?
TeddyLoid: Recently, I’ve enjoyed Chainsaw Man and Laid-Back Camp.
Do any specific anime or anime songs or soundtracks serve as musical inspiration for you?
Ghost in the Shell TeddyLoid
What is your favourite subgenre of anime?
I like science fiction, TeddyLoid.
Which anime opening and closing tunes are your favourites?
TeddyLoid: The Vaundy song that just concluded Chainsaw Man’s debut episode was excellent.
What do you think makes the ties between anime and music so unique?
TeddyLoid: Our dependence on one another is unavoidable. Without the other, neither is good.
What anime universe would you perform in, if you could?
TeddyLoid: I like playing MMOs a lot as a youngster, therefore I’d want to explore the SAO universe. LOL.
Do you have any last words you’d want to share with your global fan base?
TeddyLoid: I appreciate your support of my music and my efforts constantly. Please anticipate new works since I’m always producing them. I appreciate your ongoing assistance.
