Gourmet Spinoff of Shikakenin Fujieda Baian Manga Ends

The Shikakenin Meshibanashi “Fujieda Baian Saiban-ki” spinoff manga by Yji Takemura will conclude on February 13 in the magazine’s March edition, according to an announcement made in the magazine’s February issue by LEED Publishing’s Comic Ran Twins. The manga adaptation of Shtar Ikenami’s Shikakenin Fujieda Baian novels by Takemura led to the offshoot series. The original work is still given credit to the late Shtar Ikenami.

In March 2022, the gourmet manga spinoff, which examines Edo-era food, debuted in Comic Ran Twins.

In Comic Ran Twins, Takemura began the original manga (seen on the right) in May 2016 and finished it in November 2021.

The protagonist of the original books, which are set in the ancient Edo era, is Fujieda Baian, a medical man by day and vicious assassin by night. In both jobs, he uses the same tools of the trade: disposable acupuncture needles.

Takemura’s GIFDD! A television anime adaptation of the Nobuhiko Horie and Tetsuo Hara’s Keiji Tsuki-gatari manga by Naoe Kanetsugu-Maeda was produced in 2013. The anime was shown live on Crunchyroll as it was in Japan.

Ikenami authored seven books in his Shikakenin Fujieda Baian series between 1972 and 1990; the series was left incomplete after his death in 1990. Live-action TV shows and movies have also been influenced by the series. Takao Saito, the creator of Golgo 13, previously published a manga adaptation in 35 volumes from 2001 to 2015.

The 2017 anime with the same name was also influenced by Ikenami’s Onihei books.
