Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Goes on Hiatus

The ninth edition of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine this year announced on Wednesday that the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Ss no Frieren) manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe would take a break. The publication remained mum about the manga’s resumption date.
The manga has a licence from Viz Media, which outlines the plot as follows:
An elf mage who is learning the meaning of life continues alive after the quest is ended. Frieren, an elf magician, and her gallant companion explorers had vanquished the Demon King and established peace in the country. However, Frieren will live far longer than the rest of her old group. How will she learn what the meaning of life is to those around her? Years after their triumph, Frieren is confronted with her own near immortality at the burial of one of her friends. Frieren sets out to carry out her friends’ last wishes and finds herself embarking on a brand-new journey.
In April 2020, Yamada and Abe published the manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday of Shogakukan. In September 2022, the ninth book will be released. The seventh volume was released by Viz Media on Tuesday.
An animation for television that will debut this year is inspired by the manga.
The manga has earned a number of honours, including the 14th Manga Taisho Award and the New Creator Prize for the 25th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2021. Additionally, the manga was shortlisted for Best Shnen Manga at both the 46th Manga Awards in May 2021 and the 45th Manga Awards presented by Kodansha.
The manga was also named #6 for male readers in Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook for 2022, and #17 on the 21st annual “Book of the Year” list for manga published by Da Vinci magazine in December 2021.
