Chainsaw Man’s Power Vs. MHA’s Katsuki Bakugo

A superstar protagonist and one or more sidekicks often make form the core “squad” of shonen anime series, which the audience may support. The majority of those sidekicks are good-hearted and modest, but sometimes having an aggressive antihero sidekick is more entertaining.

Inosuke Hashibira from Demon Slayer and Nobara Kugisaki from Jujutsu Kaisen are two recent examples, but Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia and Power from Chainsaw Man are unquestionably the most vicious shonen sidekicks. Both are savage sidekicks that are quick to anger and don’t always take the shonen hero seriously, but they can be relied upon when the actual bad guys show up.

The explosive tsundere Katsuki Bakugo admired All Might, the image of calm, and yearned to be like him, exactly like his boyhood companion Izuku Midoriya. Bakugo used his competitive nature to become class 1-A’s most intensive student and actively pursue excellence after enrolling at UA. Bakugo claimed several wins in both fictitious and actual combat because to his powerful Explosion Quirk and remarkably high academic standing. With his triumph in the UA sports competition, his outstanding performance versus Setsuna’s squad in the joint training exercise, and even his victories against true villains in the three My Hero Academia films, such Serpenters, he surpassed class 1-A. Bakugo quickly recognised, however, that his character defects were finally catching up with him.

Despite his strength, Katsuki Bakugo struggled with emotionally draining anxieties, mostly with Izuku and All Might. Bakugo was scared by Izuku’s mysterious ascent to prominence and resentful that All Might had to struggle so hard to save him from the League of Villains. Before All Might intervened to arbitrate between Bakugo and Izuku, he aggressively reacted since he didn’t know how to digest anything. As soon as Bakugo realised the truth about Izuku and One For All, he changed his perspective and became more aggressive in his burgeoning hero career while also being somewhat more fair.

Under Endeavor’s guidance, Bakugo eventually joined Izuku and Shoto’s squad. In MHA manga chapters, he even expressed regret to Izuku for what he had done and acknowledged that Izuku, and not he, was the one who would ultimately defeat All For One and Tomura Shigaraki. It was Bakugo’s responsibility to fight with his peers from class 1-A and aid Izuku in winning so that society as a whole may benefit.

How Power Subverted a Subversion as Best Worst Girl

How Power Subverted a Subversion as Best Worst Girl

To produce a wild, unexpected, and sometimes gory story, Chainsaw Man, in contrast to My Hero Academia, subverts and twists several shonen norms and stock characters. Denji is a half-other who does not dream large or believe in the power of friendship. In the meanwhile, Power, his new fiend sidekick, is subversion squared. Chainsaw Man’s Power raises the standard still more when Jujutsu Kaisen’s Nobara Kugisaki subverted that by being a tough yet endearing female, similar to a fixed Sakura Haruno. She happily breaks through all constraints and rules of narrative to transform into a vulgar, unpleasant, adversarial, and clearly unladylike shonen sidekick. More than any other person in recent years, she is a long way from becoming “The Girl.”

With all of this, Power is a refreshing female character and shonen sidekick in general. It’s not that obnoxious, unpleasant females are the greatest; rather, it’s a refreshing change of pace to have a supportive girl who refuses to live up to stereotypes of what “good ladies” should be like. She clearly identifies as the owner of power, even if it means acting like a nasty, filthy creature who betrays others or laughs at their suffering. Girls may now do more than just break out from the “damsel in distress” stereotype thanks to the opening it creates for female character creation in shonen. Power is one of anime’s finest Worst Girls because, like their male counterparts, they can be anything.

Aside from that, Power and Denji have a character arc that is quite similar in that they are both gruff antiheroes who are half-other, which means they don’t belong in either human or fiend society. They are the only ones left, and despite a rocky beginning, they and the tsundere demon hunter Aki Hayakawa formed an unusually dysfunctional but still happy new family. Power won over viewers with her imaginative flair and can-do attitude, and despite their previous disagreements, Power is really becoming closer to Denji. They nearly have a brother-sister relationship, and Power undoubtedly had a role in fostering it.

Power vs. Katsuki Bakugo - Who's The Better Antihero Sidekick?

As gruff, direct, and unexpected shonen sidekicks, Bakugo and Power are both a welcome change of pace, but overall, Bakugo wins. Being an aggressive yet insecure youngster who must balance his own goals with Izuku’s strength and the truth that All Might has a secret weakness, he has even more emotional depth than Power. In contrast to Power, who only became Denji’s buddy and nothing more, he also sincerely made apologies to Izuku for all his wrongdoings.

Bakugo is more inventive in combat because to his leadership abilities and ongoing improvement of his already powerful Quirk. He also has more relatable objectives than Power, which gives his character arc more focus. Aside from that, with his participation in the school festival as a drummer, his entertaining family, and his love of spicy cuisine and rock climbing, Bakugo really has more and better character fluff than Power.
